Smartphones contain our entire lives these days. They've got all of our contacts messages social media profiles and often much more besides. They are very big in our lives but very small in our physical world. They are also quite slippery and easy to leave behind. Lost iPhones are so common that there is an app to help their hapless owners locate their errant phones: Find My iPhone.
Where is it?
Standard procedure having lost a phone is to get someone else to ring it. This tactic is entirely foolproof unless your phone is on silent which it usually is when you lose it. Find My iPhone works using iCloud the system on which iPhone users store their stuff. iPhones broadcast their location to iCloud which means that iCloud always knows where iPhones are a bit like Santa Claus alway knowing whether you've been good or bad. On losing an iPhone the owner need only consult the Find My iPhone app from any iOS device. The app then consults iCloud to locate the lost phone. If the battery is dead or the phone has been switched off it can at least notify the owner of the phone's last known location.
Free peace of mind
Find my iPhone is not foolproof and cannot protect against dropping down the loo and the like. However when it comes to finding a lost iPhone it's hard to beat.
